Athreya Ayurvedic Spa Sigiriya

Giving this spa 4 out of 5 stars. The only reason for the missing star is that upon arrival, the staff mainly introduced the expensive spa packages and didn’t mention the standard massage options. It felt too sales-focused. Thankfully we already knew they offered a 1.5-hour massage for LKR 13,500 per person, which was exactly what we wanted. The massage itself was excellent. The therapists were professional, friendly, and made the experience very relaxing. The steam room afterward was also a nice touch. Just be prepared to leave with your hair and body quite oily and wet, so it’s best to visit when you don’t have any plans afterward or before going to bed. There were also complimentary tea and honey-ginger candy at the end which were a lovely finishing touch. Overall, a relaxing experience with great therapists.

We had an incredible massage and the service was so good. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and the building itself is absolutely stunning. Considering the high quality, the prices are very reasonable. Having access to the steam bath and shower afterward was the perfect finishing touch. I highly recommend it!

Just the best experience, particularly after climbing Lion Rock at dawn. We requested full body Ayurvedic treatment with firm pressure and attention to key areas. This was tailored to exquisitely by each therapist. Expert massage, deeply therapeutic and spiritual relaxation combined followed by 20 mins in a steam room then chai 🙏🪷🧘‍♀️

While the actual treatments and the setting were quite lovely, the business side of the experience felt a bit exploitative. The Good: Massage & Atmosphere The quality of the massage itself was genuinely good. The therapist was skilled, professional, and attentive to pressure, which made for a very relaxing session. The atmosphere is another highlight; the spa is tucked away in a quiet, lush area far from the noise of the main road. The steam bath with fresh herbs was also a rejuvenating touch. The Bad: Pricing vs. Fair Pay The main issue is the pricing. By Sri Lankan standards, the treatments are quite expensive—expect to pay between($45–$85 USD) for 1–2 hour packages. While these prices are high for the region, it’s clear from the staff's demeanor and "hovering" for tips that they aren't seeing a fair share of that money. It feels like a "tourist trap" where the management takes a massive cut, while the hard-working therapists who are the actual reason to visit - receive very little. Booking: Your local driver will almost certainly recommend this place (likely because they get a commission) Be Prepared for Oil: Authentic Ayurvedic massages use a lot of oil. Your hair and clothes will likely get oily If you don't mind the higher price and want a good massage in a nice jungle setting, you’ll enjoy it. However, it’s disappointing to see such a gap between what the customer pays and what the workers likely earn.

The massage was very good and relaxing, and overall we liked the place. The therapists did a great job and we left feeling much better. However, I’m not giving 5 stars because the experience at the beginning and the end felt a bit strange. When we arrived, there was no welcome and we were left waiting for about 15 minutes until someone came and simply asked us to come pay. After the massage they served us tea, but again we were just left there without much interaction or explanation. The massage itself was excellent, but for a full 5-star review the experience should feel more complete, with a proper welcome and a more attentive closing.
