Sama Retreats - Kosgoda

If you think the previous reviews are all too good to be true (like I did when I booked Sama) - prepare to be proven wrong! My week at Sama was remarkable. The natural surroundings at Sama are truly captivating. Add on the most incredible hospitality, food, treatments and activities and you're in paradise. While Sama provides exceptional service, it is a down to earth/unfussy place where it is easy to relax and unwind. I can't wait to return with my mum and sisters one day to share the experience. Thank you so much to the entire team for welcoming me and hopefully see you one day soon!

By some good fortune I found SAMA retreats online and decided to book for a 9 day Ayuervedic wellness package. I normally scan the web and look for the best place; somehow i knew this was it. I couldn't have imagined though how spectacular it would be. It exceeded every expectation I had. Let's start with the people- the kindest on the planet. All of them; every single person who works there, felt like they wanted to care for me. My daily massages were extraordinary and i definitely was in a very peaceful state of mind. The FOOD! incredible. The chef Palinda is special, he cared about my diet, yet made sure I was eating the most delicious food at every meal. He went out of his way to make me a special lunch every day that i could take to the beach. It was ready in a take-away method, so it was fresh and warm and perfect. It was really so great. My room was filled with windows overlooking the natural setting of the property. Private so I never saw anyone nearby and it was quiet, serence and comforting. The entire property is very natural, as the owners are conservationists so the attention to each pathway, building, and the environment is conscious and feels to be part of the treatment. The one of a kind director of SAMA is Fabian. A kind lovely man who serves everyone with ease. Nothing is too much of a request for Fabian, who embodies the Sri Lankan approach to service. He is so smart, always smiling, and always helpful. Changing appointments at the spa if you wish, is done without drama, he is always thinking of the guest experience. I also must acknowledge the amazing Ayurvedic doctor I saw 3 times, who also practices Chinese medicine and accupunture. She is a gifted and intelligent dr who made a big difference in my week there and hopefully when I am home, and back to eating as she suggested. Overall I can't stress how phenomenal my time at SAMA was, and i encourage anyone who wants to experience something personal and different to go there.

Sama is a truly magical place. The owner had a vision to create a haven in nature and he succeeded in every way. Beautifully restored cottages make for very comfortable and private rooms where you can watch monkeys, mongoose, peacocks and lizards from your windows to the cacophony of bird song. The result is utterly serene and peaceful. The chef is a mastermind, creating divine Sri Lankan dishes using local and organic produce and passionately explaining everything including its health benefits. The team at Sama are friendly and helpful always going to extra mile to make the guests feel at home and that is what Sama feels like, a home away from home. Sama sits right on a beautiful beach so if you want a break from the stunning pool you can still on the beach. A few days here and you will feel like a different person, a true paradise escape.

I recently spent 3 days and 2 nights at this resort(quite boutique actually with only 12 rooms but huge common area), and it was exactly the peaceful escape I needed. Surrounded by stunning natural scenery—lush greenery, fresh air, and beautiful views—it felt like a true retreat from daily stress. The service was impeccable, with staff who were genuinely attentive and warm. And the food? Absolutely delicious, every meal was a delight. I left feeling completely refreshed and relaxed. Highly recommend for anyone looking to recharge in a beautiful setting.

This was the best stay we had in Sri Lanka, possibly even the best we’ve ever had anywhere. A huge thank you to the entire staff, who were incredibly kind and attentive to us and our baby. A special mention to Kavi, who was especially caring with our little one and made us feel so comfortable. The room was so spacious and absolutely beautiful, and the hotel’s beach is without a doubt the most stunning we saw in Sri Lanka. Do not hesitate, you will love your stay here!
