No trained trainers for rehab and no informed front desk:
I called this gym this morning to ask whether they have trainers who can support rehabilitation for clients recovering from a herniated disc. I was told they do not, which is the opposite of what they advertise.
The front desk staff did not speak English. When I spoke in English, I was answered in Sinhala. I also clearly explained that I had been cleared by a physiotherapist for post-herniated-disc exercise, but I was told I should not come to the gym because I “can’t carry weight.”
I was then told that a female staff member who attends to ladies would check and call me back. When I asked about support for men, I was told there was no one available. No one called back.
It is difficult to trust a gym that advertises itself as the only gym with a medical team to assess clients and create customized fitness schedules, yet appears unable to provide the service it promotes. Sri Lanka’s Consumer Protection Act prohibits false or misleading representations about the standard, quality, or benefits of services. A general fitness source also notes that people recovering from a herniated disc may still exercise when appropriately guided, rather than being told blanketly to avoid the gym

The only downsides of this gym are the high membership fees and personal training costs, and the fact that, despite having lockers, you're not allowed to use them, so you have to keep your bags on the floor before entering. Other than that, the trainers are attentive and genuinely care about their clients, the facility is clean, and experts say it has high-end equipment that's rarely found around Colombo. It's usually not crowded, so there's no waiting for equipment, and it's frequented by a decent crowd.

I’ve been a member here for over two years, and the primary reason for that is the outstanding team of trainers. Devinda, Chandika, Yasith, and Dola are true professionals who make this gym a top-tier place to train.
What sets them apart is their attention to the training environment. They consistently encourage and advise every member to rerack their plates, which is a huge benefit for everyone. It ensures that the workout floor stays organized, making it much easier for all of us to transition between exercises and complete our sessions properly.
Their guidance makes the gym feel very calm, orderly, and professional. If you’re looking for a luxury space where the trainers actually care about the flow and quality of your workout, these are the guys to see.
Highly recommended!

I have been a member of BodyDoc Gym for the past two years, and until today, I have generally had a positive experience. However, I am writing to formally raise a concern about an incident that occurred today involving trainer Chandika Gunarathne.
After completing my squat sets, I moved to the leg press machine and admittedly forgot to re-rack the weights immediately. Chandika approached me and pointed it out, which was completely fair. I then completed one set and went back to properly re-rack the weights.
The issue escalated afterward. When I placed a 10kg weight on the rack where the label clearly indicated “10kg,” Chandika began yelling at me, insisting that it did not belong there and claiming that “even though it says 10kg, there are 15kgs there.” This made no sense to me — if the label says 10kg, it is reasonable for a member to assume that is where the 10kg plates belong. If the rack is incorrectly labeled or organized differently, that is not the fault of a member.
Instead of calmly explaining the situation, he continued raising his voice and making the situation unnecessarily uncomfortable. There were only three members in the gym at the time, yet the matter was treated as though it were a major issue.
I felt disrespected and singled out. As a paying member of two years, I do not believe it is acceptable to be yelled at, especially over something so minor. If I had refused to re-rack the weights, that would have been different — but I did correct the situation. Being spoken to aggressively, particularly in a way that felt dismissive because I appear younger, was upsetting.
I am not writing this to create unnecessary conflict, but I do not want this to happen again. All members deserve to be treated with respect and professionalism.
I hope the management can address this matter appropriately and ensure that communication between staff and members remains respectful moving forward.

I used this gym during my 5-week vacation in Sri Lanka. It was a great experience, and the staff were super friendly. Keep up the good work guys! :)
